The Municipality of Söderhamn created a wetland alongside a sewage treatment plant. This resulted in a reduction in nitrogen emissions of 5.5 tonnes/year and in phosphorus emissions of 365 kg/year. At the same time, the residents of Söderhamn gained a new recreational area that has also become a resting and breeding site for many birds.
